Why patients look abroad
Dental prices vary significantly by location. Marketplace data can show much lower headline prices in international destinations, which is why implant dentistry is a major dental-travel category.
Compare like with like
Before treating a foreign price as “60% cheaper,” verify whether each quote includes the same implant count, implant brand, restoration material, extractions, grafting, temporary teeth, imaging and follow-up.
Vet the provider, not just the destination
- Who is performing the surgery?
- Who designs and delivers the prosthesis?
- What training and implant experience do they have?
- Which implant system is used and can components be serviced at home?
- How are complications handled after you leave?
Add travel to the treatment total
Include airfare, lodging, local transportation, companion costs if needed, time away from work, and the possibility of return travel. For staged implant treatment, ask how many trips are expected.
Red flags in remote quotes
Be cautious when a provider guarantees candidacy before reviewing adequate records, refuses to itemize the plan, cannot explain the implant system or final material, or uses pressure tactics to collect a deposit before answering clinical and follow-up questions.
Medellín as a comparison market
Dental Departures currently publishes a Medellín comparison page with example prices around $1,100 for implants and $7,700 for All-on-4. Use those as marketplace reference points rather than guaranteed clinic quotes.
